UHU House

UHU House
The name “UHU” comes from how the owners describe their relationship — “stuck together like UHU glue.” Unlike super glue, which cannot be separated, UHU represents a bond that is sometimes close, sometimes apart, yet always connected. This reflects the couple’s way of living: each maintaining their own individuality and personal space, while still sharing moments of closeness. Interestingly, “UHU” is also used by the couple as a playful greeting reserved only for those who are truly close to them, much like the home itself, which is designed to welcome only family and intimate guests. UHU House was created to support both the beginning of married life and the future expansion of the family. It is built on the family’s original land, on a plot measuring approximately 15 x 35 meters (130 square wah), with a total usable area of about 400 square meters, oriented towards the east.
The owners requested a modern box-style home that would remain timeless while ensuring privacy between the new residence and the original family home. The design prioritizes key communal spaces such as the living and dining areas, positioned at the rear of the site for greater tranquility. However, because the back faces west and receives intense heat, the design solution was to introduce a double-volume hall for natural ventilation, along with solid walls to shield the space from direct sunlight.
The functional layout is as follows:
-
Ground floor: parking for three cars, guest reception, guest bedroom, shared bathroom, and a swimming pool.
-
Second floor: master bedroom, walk-in closet, study, prayer room, and bathrooms, mostly oriented to the east at the front of the house to capture morning light.
Since the bedrooms are positioned at the front, where privacy is more limited, the solution was to design a facade that provides seclusion while still allowing in natural daylight. The chosen material was black clay brick, favored by both the owners and the architect, which was then arranged into a custom pattern that harmonizes with the building’s form.
Upon completion, the house not only fulfilled its role as a residence but also became the setting for one of the owners’ most meaningful life events — their wedding ceremony. As architects, we are deeply moved and proud that the home has fully served its purpose, becoming the backdrop for the couple’s happiest moments.

“The greatest pride of this home lies not only in the beauty of its design or the architectural details we created, but in the fact that it became the backdrop to the most important day in the owners’ lives — a day filled with love, new beginnings, and memories to last a lifetime. This house is therefore more than just a residence; it stands as a witness and a part of their most meaningful story.”
